“WORLD WATER DAY’’- WATER FOR ALL

We all use water irrespective of where we are to satisfy our needs, that is why Water is known to be vital and a source of life.

Humans, plants, and animals are all made up of water. All living things would die if there weren't any water around.

We use water for drinking, washing, cleaning, cooking, and growing our food as well as many other things.

Water is a chemical compound consisting of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen. The name water typically refers to the liquid state of the compound. The solid phase is known as ice and gas phase is also known to be the steam.

The intake of water on a regular basis is essential for lubricating ones joints, acts as a shock absorber in the eyes and the spinal cord and aids in maintaining constant body temperature.

It also helps in the function of the kidney as well as playing an important role in respiration, digestion, assimilation, metabolism, and waste removal.

Its keeps pressure, acidity, and composition of all chemical reactions in equilibrium.

That is why the United Nations General Assembly every year commemorates this day 22th March, as World Water Day all over the world in other to highlights a specific aspect of freshwater.

Over the years, each World Water Day, focused on a unique issue within the context of water sustainability. Sanitation, urban planning and trans-boundary waters have all served as yearly themes.

This year’s theme “International Year of Water Cooperation” aims at focusing attention on the importance of freshwater and advocating for sustainable management of freshwater resources.

The importance of this year’s theme is to strike a balance between the different needs, priorities and share precious resource equitably, using water as an instrument of peace.

Promoting water cooperation also implies an interdisciplinary approach in cultural, educational and scientific factors, as well as religious, ethical, social, political, legal, institutional and economic dimensions.

Reports indicate that, there has been tremendous effort to curb the level of waste food which results in the misuse of water. Therefore, awareness campaign has been created on healthier diets and effective storing of water.

By 2015, a target date set by the Millennium Declaration, hopes to halve the proportion of people who are unable to afford or reach safe drinking water.

As humans, we need to take good care of our water bodies, and not destroy it, since water is life.
